Mix versus Blend

Not all glitters play solo.

When a glitter isn’t just one single cut of one single colour, we use the terms Mix and Blend. They sound similar, but they mean very different things - and once you know the difference, reading glitter names gets much easier. Both terms tell you what’s been combined and are closely related to both the cut and colour of a glitter.

A MIX takes one glitter family (same colour, same finish) and combines it in different particle cuts. Think of it as the same glitter, just big bits and small bits hanging out together. The name of the mix always refers to the largest particle in the mix. For example a Chunky Mix includes several hex cuts, up to and including 2.5 mm, whereas an Ultrafine Mix only includes hex particles up to and including 0.8 mm.

Same colour. Same vibe. Just more cuts.

A BLEND combines different glitter families - meaning more than one colour and/or finish. These particles might all be the same cut, or they might be a combination of cuts. Just like mixes, the name of the blend refers to the largest particle in the blend.

If there’s more than one colour involved, you’re in Blend territory.

Shaped Mixes and Blends are slightly different in that they will have at least one non-hex particle (think hearts, star, flake) either with or without hex particles.

Basically: if it’s not all hexes, it counts as shaped.
